About me

Hello - I'm Melanie and I make limited edition lino prints of dancing hares, otters, naughty dogs, swarms of bees and favourite pot plants from my home studio in Bristol.

I've always loved drawing and studied Illustration at University - by the end of my degree I was mostly working in the Print Studios and when i graduated Lino Printing was a brilliant way to carry on printmaking whilst on the move and with no studio - plus I love it!

My lino prints start as drawings  – sketching everywhere I go to capture ideas and shapes which evolve into print ideas.  The subject matter is largely nature based, (plants and animals) but also people and places feature, with a stylised and humourous slant - I really love drawing birds, so lots and lots of bird lino prints.

Some fab independent Galleries started stocking my early lino prints and were really encouraging and supportive and I have been selling lino prints ever since - 20 years of lino bits and off-cuts underfoot!

Lino cut printing is a tactile and fun technique.  The lino printing equipment is straightforward and suitable for most studio and home spaces.  To make lino prints I transfer my drawings onto the lino block and then hand carve the design with lino cutting tools, before inking up and hand burnishing the back of the paper to create a print.  Printed on mostly local Somerset Satin paper in limited editions, each lino print is titled, numbered and signed on the front.

I enjoy the challenge of translating a drawing into lino and also the physical process of hand burnishing. I am constantly challenging myself with the medium, in terms of both intricate lino blocks to cut and also the size and scale of lino blocks to hand burnish.

I sell my lino prints online and in galleries and have sent them off to new homes around the world...my online shop is HERE and a list of some of my real life current stockists is HERE
