I am a lino printer based in Bristol, UK and work from my home studio.
I trained as an Illustrator, graduating in 1997 and have been carving out lino printed hares, cats, spiders, plants and otters ever since.
My printmaking is based on drawings I make – sketching everywhere I go to capture ideas and shapes which evolve into my lino prints. My subject matter is largely nature based, plants and animals but also people and places feature and with a stylised and humourous slant.
I transfer my drawings onto the lino block and then hand carve the design, before inking up and hand burnishing the back of the paper to create a print. Printed on local Somerset Satin paper in limited editions, each lino print is titled, numbered and signed on the front.
I enjoy the challenge of translating a drawing into lino and also the physical process of hand burnishing. I am constantly challenging myself with the medium, in terms of both intricate lino blocks to cut and also the size and scale of lino blocks to hand burnish.
